The New Jersey News reported that a dogfight occurred at 28th street and Avenue E in Bayonne, resulting in injuries to five persons, including two police officers who were attempting to break up the fight.

A woman was walking three leashed pit bull terriers when two of the dogs started to fight. She attempted to break up the fight, but one dog bit her leg. A female friend tried to help her, but the friend was bitten on the chest and arm. A male neighbor came to their aid by restraining the aggressive pit bull, but the dog then bit the man on the left calf, left triceps, and forearm.

When police officers arrived, they attempted to tranquilize the aggressive dog.

Unfortunately, a tranquilizer dart exploded, causing two responding officers to be injured. One officer was hit in the eyes by the tranquilizer chemicals, while another officer got hit in the mouth with the spray.

An ambulance transported the three injured Bayonne residents to Bayonne Medical Center to have their lacerations stitched. The injured police officers rode a police car to the hospital.

Bayonne Animal Control took custody of the aggressive dog. No charges were filed against the dog owner.
